TILTSHIFT GENERATOR FOR IPHONE

I tried the TILTSHIFT GENERATOR APP for the iPhone. It kind of gives you the possibility to let photos look like miniature pictures or to even focus on specific areas of your picture. It comes along with some nice effects. It's worth giving it a try.

WINTER DAY

Cold temperature and strong eastern wind - these have been the main parameters of today. But a couple of minutes ago the sky looked brilliant.

LEGOMANIA

There is no way to pass a Lego shop without checkin' it out - or even worse - buying more Lego stuff. But anyway, I needed to have Buzz Lightyear and bought the package that contained him: the pizza planet jeep. It's cool because it contains a pizza canon. If you pull at the rear it shoots pizza's from the front.

CRAFTED APPLE BOX

I did some more crafting this weekend to store some items such as a Mac Book charger, headphones etc. It's the second time that I chose cardboard as material. I like the idea of recycling stuff and besides that it's easy to handle.

Some items and tools you might need:

Best would be to make a form, draw the outlines to the cardboard and cut them.

After you got several pieces, you can easily glue them together.

I'm using some weights to obtain some pressure to the layers.

And if everything works out fine you'll get this:

TRUE TECHIE

The recent book I read was „The boy who harnessed the wind” from WILLIAM KAMKWAMBA. It’s a very touching story about an African boy who is fighting poverty with simple but brilliant technical inventions. I definitely recommend this book! If you’d like to have a preview, check out his story on youtube.

CARDBOARD IPHONE STAND

If you’re using your iPhone a lot it’s always the same: there are too few iPhone stands around. An easy and cheap way to work around that is to simply built one. There are lots of instructions out there, but I tried to setup my own model. The basic idea is to glue several layers of cardboard together.

If you’re interested please check out the CARDBORAD IPHONE STAND LAYOUT as PDF.

Print out the LAYOUT, copy them to cardboard, cut pieces, glue them...

LAYOUT ausdrucken, auf Pappe anzeichnen, ausschneiden, zusammenkleben...

A few things you might need.

Ein paar Dinge, die man braucht.

That's how it should look like after gluing the parts together. Irregularities can be rectified by using sandpaper.

That's the result.

Und so sieht die Halterung fertig aus.

LEGO SOLAR PANEL STAND

Today the sun was out and I just thought about how to improve the efficiency of my solar panel. I'm using it to recharge my iPhone while running the radio app. The panel + battery have been one of my best investments ever. I'm using them a lot. So finally I came up with a Lego solar panel stand that does work out pretty well!

KIELER WOCHE

The Kiel Week is close at hand. It’s, at least once, definitely worth avoiding the big party in the city and driving to Schilksee instead. That’s where all the sailing contests will take place. Right now everything is calm over there but very soon the place will be crowded by all kinds of boats.

I discovered the vector tool INKSCAPE. The open source software does provide a lot of interesting possibilities to produce nice graphics. Related to the vector technology the graphics do scale well and won't be a mess of pixels.

HUGIN

I got a hint from a friend of mine. He showed me how to create panorama pictures with the HUGIN PHOTO STITCHER. It’s very easy to use. First of all one has to take pictures of the selected scene, overlapping each other by approx. two-thirds. After starting Hugin you simply import the relevant photos, the software is doing a bit of math … done. It’s pretty easy and the result is very nice. Especially for outdoor scenes it seems to be a very useful tool because the camera angle always seems to be too small.

I've been to Erfurt once again. Had been out to pick some food in the evening and enjoyed the nice city afterwards.
